Greater Boston Chapter of ASTD Recognized with 2012 Membership Star

GBASTD was recognized for sharing the ideas and success it has had with driving membership engagement and Chapter leadership succession through volunteerism. The goal of the Volunteerism Program was to recruit and organize volunteers to accomplish key processes and activities to energize the chapter and increase member engagement. Through social media, meetings, our website and newsletters we put out a call for volunteers to form committees and accomplish key initiatives for the chapter. Our Learning and Development colleagues stepped forward in such force that we soon created a “Volunteer Coordinator” position dedicated to oversight of the Volunteerism Program. Our committees and board members worked together to create and document processes and activities for the chapter such as.

    •    Delivering Best-in-Industry Monthly Programs
    •    Implementing Scholarship Program for Members and Board Members
    •    Having a set of written plans and strategies
          o    Operating Plan
          o    Continuous Improvement Strategy
          o    Succession Plan
          o    Recruitment/Retention Strategy
    •    Expanding and seating a full board
    •    Driving and increasing member engagement

From April 2011 to September 2012 the number of members increased from 85 to 140, the average meeting attendance grew from 40 to 60, the number of volunteers went from 9 to 30, and the number of committees grew from 0 to 6.

These committees are active again this Fall, so now’s the time to join in and make your impact on your career field! Greater Boston ASTD acknowledges that our success is the product of the combined synergies of our talented and dynamic volunteer staff of Learning and Development professionals. "Thank you for helping us in our success".

Sarah Jeffcoat, Chair of ASTD's Chapter Recognition Committee said, "This recognition honors the Greater Boston ASTD's best practice that demonstrates its commitment to managing a successful organization as well as advancing the learning and development profession at the local level. We are excited to honor the chapter with ASTD's SOS recognition."
