Social Learning and Social Networking

Event Description:
Social networking is fast becoming a preferred method for world-class companies to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and drive innovation. Central to all of this is the role social learning plays within these various kinds of social exchange and connection. In this session, learning professionals will learn about leading companies who are already using social learning and social networking to improve their bottom-line, the strategic role of social networking within a larger learning ecosystem, and the application of various social learning models and tools to fit specific business problems. This is a hands-on session where participants will collaboratively create content, work on group projects, and use social media and networking tools.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify three case studies of Fortune 1000 companies who are successfully using social learning models
  • Define the three models of social learning and how these map to specific strategies and tools
  • Evaluate the pro’s and con’s of different social interventions as solutions to specific kinds of learning challenges
  • Describe their own personal experience in using social media as a practitioner

About the Presenter:
David Wilkins has been a thought leader in the online community and corporate eLearning industries for more than 15 years. Through the development of simulation technology, LMS solutions, and community offerings, he has pioneered many innovative approaches to solve common workplace challenges, such as employee productivity and performance, recruiting and retention, and corporate communications.

In his current role as Learn.com’s Executive Director of Product Marketing, David is responsible for product strategy and communication of Learn.com’s vision and direction. David is an active speaker at industry conferences and has written articles for CLO and Learning Solutions magazine among many others.
